Асаи ( Euterpe oleracea ) — вид пальмы семейства арековых, распространённый исключительно в Южной Америке (от юга Центральной Америки до севера Бразилии). Асаи достигает высоты 20 м и произрастает преимущественно на болотистых участках. Культивируется преимущественно в Бразилии.
Его плоды, часто называемые «асаи» вместо «ягоды асаи», красновато-фиолетовые, ближе к фиолетовому, диаметром 1-2 см. Созревшие ягоды напоминают чернику или бузину. Они состоят на 10% из мякоти (кожицы) и на 90% из семян (косточек). Ягоды асаи обладают смешанным вкусом, напоминающим коктейль из красных ягод с нотками шоколада.

Асаи является частью кулинарных и медицинских традиций коренных племён Амазонии ещё с доколумбовых времён. Они используют молодые побеги асаи (сердцевину пальмы), а также её ягоды.
